CPS fails again

Baby Dies After Breast Feeding Incident
OSHKOSH, Wis. — A 4-month-old girl died when her inebriated mother fell asleep on top of her while breast-feeding, prosecutors said. ....

Hawkins was charged Friday with one count of child neglect causing a death. If convicted as a repeat felony offender, she could be sentenced to 29 years in prison and fined $100,000. ....

The 27-year-old — who was on probation for child neglect — had consumed six double-shot alcoholic beverages at a bowling alley, the criminal said. A toxicologist estimated her blood alcohol level ranged from .15 to .27 percent. ....

Hawkins was on probation for neglect of the same child, and was prohibited from drinking alcohol and from having unsupervised contact with all four of her children at once, court documents show.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the more appalling the parents are, the more likely CPS workers are to let them have custody of their kids?

Blame CPS for this child's death yet deny such women the right to have abortions? Many women in similar circumstances would choose to abort because they know they are unable to care for a child. So you want to take away that right and then blame an overburdened system? Sounds a little fishy to me...

Oh,yes, Katie. I'm with you. I love this about the "pro-lifers." Advocate for women not being able to have the right to make decisions about when and how they can have children. When something does happen, when a woman who obviously did not have the emotional capacity to raise a child screws up, the answer is that the system just didn't work the way it should have.

Women chose to end the potential life of the person growing inside of them when they know it's not the right time for them to bring a child into the world. 90%, yes, 90% of those women, have an abortion in the first trimester. They are being responsible, caring and compassionate. They are making a mature decision to structure their lives and the lives of their current or future children in a sensitive, coherent way.

People like you want to decide for them when they should or should not have children. YOu want to decide for their current children whether or not they should or shouldn't have siblings. You want to legislate personal decisions. And yet when it comes to fixing the problems of unwanted children not having safe and secure homes to grow up in, of broken bureacratic systems, you back away.

I see on your other blog you list women who have died from abortion. I notice that a fair number are pre-Roe v. Wade. Which, of course, is wonderful support for legal abortion. I'm also sure you know, and please, I encourage you to contact a series of hospitals, the American Medical Association, the Association for Obstetrics and Gynecologists, etc. , that the abortion procedure is 10 times safer than childbirth. Abortion is one of the SAFEST medical procedures available to women. Does that mean that tragedies don't happen? Of course not. And it is a tragedy when any woman dies. An absolute tragedy.

However, I"m so tired of missing facts, misused statistics and blatant propaganda from people like you who just MUST ensure that your personal feelings become law for all women of our land. My daughter will not surrender her body to people like you so that you can make sure everyone lives the life you want them to lead.

Women and men who are truly in favor of a woman and her family having the freedom to decide when it is, or is not, the right time to bring a child into this world understand what being responsible, loving and FREE is all about.

To legislate reproduction and women's bodies, to legislate families is so sad. You are saying, in effect, we do not trust our neighbors, we do not trust our friends and family members to make what we consider to be the "right" decisions for themselves. It is only through government regulation that we will allow you to procreate. Good luck with that.

Hey, Katie and anya, if abortion is so good at weeding out those destined for abuse, how come we're still seeing so much child abuse? Did we kill the wrong 45 million fetuses, or was 45 million not enough?

@ Anya

Reply to statement one:
Your decision ended when your pregnancy test turned up positive. Your decision was wether or not to have sex.
No the fault still lies with the woman, she could have put it up for adoption-i believe the number was somewhere around 2 million families are on adoption lists(and are willing to accept handicapped babies.)

Reply to statement 2:
Modern biology has determined that it is not potential life, but life. Refer to "Reply to statement one".

Reply to statement 3:
Refer back to the refutation of your first statement.

Reply to statement 4:
Actually, it is not. Abortion has a number of both physical and psychological ailments that follow. Cancer and infertility being some physical. Depression being the one of many psychological.

Reply to statement 5:
Needs no refutation. The statement is in and of itself illogical.

Refer back to reply to statement 1.

Reply to final statement:
How much do you know about Margret Sanger?(the founder of Planned parenthood.)
Perhaps you didnt realize the intent of abortion was to weed out those unfit to function in society. Lower class citizens, blacks, jews, and Catholics. Margret Sanger's list of those unfit to exist...

@ Katie.

Assumption based on no facts.
