11-ounce preemie thriving

At 11 ounces, or 312 grams, Dakota Juanita Guido, born at 26 weeks, is doing well. Her only problem is her prematurity, her prognosis good.

Can I take a moment to say that I am pleased that you aren't like most of the anti-abortion people who stop caring about a child once it's born. You truly hold up to the meaning of what it is to be "Pro-life".

I only wish more people who claim to be Pro-life would spend their time and energy on making it easier on the mothers who make the decision not to have an abortion (this would, in turn, make it MUCH easier on the child), instead of wasting it trying only to make abortion illegal. That won't stop abortions from happening. I always say making abortion illegal will stop them just as making rape illegal stopped it from happening.

You'd be surprised, nemohee. One very active prolife friend runs support for parents of NICU kids. I know a bunch of prolifers associated with Syracuse University who are huge advocates for folks with disabilities. A dear friend who died a few years ago was specially called to befriend drug addicts in the Fry Street area of Denton, Texas, and was always taking in homeless people.

I think it's just that if you don't see us outside the antiabortion context, so you don't know what we do when we're not there.

I live in a very pro-life area of the U.S., and actually used to be part of the movement. The majority of those here are only concerned with it because they either think it's their ticket to heaven (save a fetus, get eternal salvation), or because mom and dad are pro-life. Most stop caring once the baby is born. They are part of the ilk like the Roman Catholic School that denied a pregnant girl her chance to walk with the rest of the graduates, even though she decided to keep the baby. They claimed it was "because they didn't accept pre-marital sex". If that's the case, then why did they allow the ADMITTED father of the baby to walk?

That's the type of "pro-lifers" I live amongst.

Yeah, they exist. That's part of why I'm freefloating rather than part of an organization. I got tired of endless lamenting about how mean those abortionists are to little bitty babies, but no actual interest in learning or accomplishing anything. But they're not the only ones out there.
